From the Table to the Studio
Food & Art Camp 2026

July 6–10, 2026 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM No. 30, Meili Street, Tainan Teacher Caicai + Assistant

A recipe is more than instructions. It is a record of attention — of the afternoon you first noticed what happens when egg meets a hot pan, how dough feels when it is finally ready, what it means to make something from raw ingredients and then share it with someone.

This summer, we want to give children five days to pay that kind of attention.

From the Table to the Studio is a cooking and art camp built around one idea: that the experience of making food — really making it, by hand, with heat and smell and small failures along the way — The cooking is the inspiration. The art is the reflection. Each day, children will cook something together. And each day, they will make something with what they felt, tasted, noticed, and discovered in the kitchen. At the end of the week, each child will bring home a recipe box of their own making — not a souvenir, but a small archive of learning and memories.

Day 1July 6
Tamagoyaki & Zongzi Prep
Morning Cook a Japanese rolled omelette and learn to prepare zongzi dough.
Afternoon Draw the first recipe card in color pencil and watercolor — food illustration, ingredients, their own words.
Day 2July 7
Zongzi & Shaped Steamed Buns
Morning Eat the zongzi from Day 1 and shape soft steamed buns.
Afternoon Sculpt a 3D food figure in play-doh and mixed materials — the first three-dimensional piece for the box.
Day 3July 8
Hand-formed Burgers & Corn Soup
Morning Form pork patties from scratch and make corn soup together.
Afternoon Create a recipe card with pencil sketches and cut felt — part drawing, part collage, entirely their own.
Day 4July 9
Sugar Science & Cake Baking
Morning Explore what sugar does under heat and bake a cake base.
Afternoon Carve and print a recipe card using a styrofoam block — bold, graphic, impossible to replicate exactly.
Day 5July 10
Fruit Cream Cake & Recipe Box
Morning Decorate a fresh fruit cream cake with piped frosting and sliced fruit.
Afternoon Fold, paint, and assemble the recipe box — all four pieces go inside, and the box goes home.
Please bring
  • Water bottle
  • Small pillow & blanket for rest
  • Bowl, chopsticks, and spoon
  • Comfortable clothing
  • One change of clothes
Optional
  • Hair tie for long hair
  • Personal apron
  • Small towel
  • Face mask
Please arrive by 9:00 AM and pickup your child by 4:00 PM. Early-bird registrants may check in at 8:00 AM and receive a free breakfast.
Cooking involves heat and kitchen tools — children are supervised at all times. Please let us know in advance about any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or ingredients your child cannot eat.
Cooking is wonderfully messy. Please dress your child in clothes that can be stained, and pack one change of clothes.
Please share anything that helps your child feel at ease — nap habits, medication, sensory sensitivities, social needs. The more we know, the better we can support them.
Photos will be taken throughout the week and shared with families afterwards. We will always honor your child's preference if they would rather not be photographed.
This is a group experience built on mutual care. We ask that children come ready to take turns, listen, and look after each other. If anything comes up during the week, we will reach out to you directly.

Please send your child ready to taste something new, pay close attention, make a mess, and come home on Friday with a box full of things they made completely from scratch. We think the recipe box will stay on their shelf for a long time — and that they will remember, each time they open it, exactly what each piece felt like to make.
