Art as Glue for Learning
MARCH-APRIL | Art + Science & Nature
Wonder Lab: Drawing the Invisible
In Wonder Lab, students explore weather, plants, the body, and movement—and learn to use art the way a curious scientist does: to observe carefully and explain how things work. Inspired by artist-scientists like Leonardo da Vinci, Maria Sibylla Merian, and Georgia O’Keeffe, drawing and painting become tools for noticing details, asking better questions, and turning “invisible” ideas into clear images. Art becomes a tool for noticing.
What We’ll Make
* Weather Lab sketchbook (pencil + watercolor: clouds, wind lines, rain patterns)
* Plant Detective studies (leaf rubbings + colored pencil observation)
* “How It Works” poster (marker + collage: senses, body map, or movement)
* Motion mini flipbook (pencil + ink: spin, bounce, glide)
What We Practice
* Looking closely: slow down, notice details, spot what changes
* Showing ideas with pictures: simple labels, arrows, and “step-by-step” drawings
* Trying different materials: textures, layering, and playful experiments
* Curiosity habits: asking “What do you notice?” and “What happens next?”
MAY-JUNE | Art + Language & Stories
Story Builders: Pictures that Talk
In Story Builders, we connect images and words so children can think like storytellers and communicate with confidence. Learning from visual narrative makers such as Aaron Becker, David Wiesner, Quentin Blake, and Raina Telgemeier, students build characters, create story sequences, and design covers and pages that support reading—while gently strengthening writing through pictures that truly “talk.” Art becomes a tool for telling stories.

What We’ll Make
* Character design sheet (pencil + marker: expressions, poses, costume clues)
* 4-panel story challenge (ink + colored pencil: beginning–problem–try–change)
* Book cover design (collage + marker: title hierarchy + image concept)
* Folded mini-zine storybook (drawing + simple layout + print)
What We Practice
* Story flow: beginning, middle, end (and what happens in between)
* Clear pictures: making the “main idea” easy to understand at a glance
* Simple design skills: bigger titles, clean spacing, easy-to-read pages
* Improving ideas: trying a second version and making it better
JULY-AUGUST | Art + Culture
Where We Live: Festivals, Food & Stories
In Where We Live, children look closely at Taiwan—neighborhood signs, night markets, foods, temples, and festivals—and transform everyday details into meaningful art. Inspired by artists who capture the spirit of place (like Chen Chengpo), students discover that culture is a visual language, and that images can communicate welcome, celebration, protection, and respect. Art becomes a tool for belonging.
What We’ll Make
* Night market sign studio (brush pen + marker + stamps: bold, readable signage)
* Festival food illustration menu (watercolor + ink: culture through everyday objects)
* Neighborhood texture map (rubbings + collage + labels: places we know)
* “Welcome to Tainan” postcard set (mixed media + print: 3 designs)
What We Practice
* Noticing our world: signs, symbols, colors, and local patterns
* Making it readable: clear letters, strong contrast, simple layouts
* Choosing what matters: one big idea, not too many details
* Caring communication: designing for real people who will see it
SEP-OCT | Art + Math & Pattern
Patterns & Puzzles: Drawing with Logic
In Patterns & Puzzles, students explore patterns, symmetry, grids, and simple data to see how structure can make art clearer and more powerful. Taking cues from creators who value “less but better” clarity (like Dieter Rams) and playful invention (like Bruno Munari), children learn that logic isn’t the opposite of creativity—it’s often the engine that helps ideas click. Art becomes a tool for playful problem-solving.
What We’ll Make
* Pattern playground grid (stamps + print textures + marker: repeat/rotate/remix)
* Symmetry creature lab (folding + ink + color: mirror rules → inventions)
* “Data art” poster (shapes + color coding + layout: simple class data visuals)
* Modular paper sculpture (cut/fold/build: forms from repeated units)
What We Practice
* Pattern skills: repeat, rotate, mirror, and remix
* Friendly “rules”: using simple constraints to spark new ideas
* Try-test-try again: small experiments without pressure
* Building in 3D: folding, stacking, and balancing forms
NOV-DEC | Art + Self & Community
Inside Out: Art About Me, Us, and Our Future
Inside Out is a chapter about voice—using art to say something real. Students turn personal experiences into symbols, scenes, and stories, then design them into small publications and posters that can be shared with others. Whether a student joined in March or just joined this month, this chapter works as a fresh starting point: we begin by building a simple “visual vocabulary” of who they are, what they care about, and what they imagine next. Art becomes a tool for self-expression and connection.
What We’ll Make
* Personal symbol set (marker + collage: icons, badges, color codes, mini “flag” designs)
* Mini zine about me (drawing + simple layout + print: 1 story, 1 idea, 1 surprise)
* Poster or comic page (marker/ink + color: my community, my values, my point of view)
* “Future message” artwork (mixed media + typography: hopes, promises, inventions, or dreams)
What We Practice
* Turning ideas into symbols: simple shapes that mean something
* Sharing stories: pictures first, words when helpful
* Clear design choices: big titles, clean space, and thoughtful color
* Confidence + kindness: presenting work and respecting different stories
If you want your child to make art with joy—and also build confidence in how they think, communicate, and learn—this year’s program is for you. Join us in March, or step in anytime during the year and begin your child’s next chapter.
“All projects are taught with age-appropriate steps: Explorers focus on playful basics; Creators add more choices and refinement.”
